Expresso is finer.

Espresso is ALMOST ground to a powder. It is much finer to allow for the way the water is pushed through the grounds quicker than regular coffee.

You can use regular coffee in an espresso machine, I believe.
Espresso has a finer grind than regular drip coffee and, as a result, a higher amount of dissolved solids per relative volume. This is why the espresso finished product is so much more concentrated than a regular brew.
So, I don’t think your espresso machine will have a problem dealing with the regular grind. You may just view it as a waste of the intended use of the machine.
My suggestion: wait until you get your hands on some real espresso and just use a regular coffee maker until then. Hope I’ve helped.

regular coffee is granular, expresso is a powder. it’s like the difference between kitty litter and baby powder.
it won’t harm your expresso machine to use coffee.
