what is the difference between a coffee and latte?

i love coffee i drink it all the time. but i have a coupon for a small latte for 99 cents from dunkin donuts and ive always wanted to try one. from what ive read it has milk instead of water, espresso, and it has whipped cream. What is espresso? when you order do you ask for just a regular? do they come with sugar ?

    Ana A says:

It is espresso (strong coffee) mixed with steamed milk instead of water. It may or may not come with whipped cream (the “normal” lattes in most places do not). It is usually not sweetened (unless you are getting a flavored variey) – taste it, and then stir in as much sugar or other sweetener as you like. When ordering, just as for a small latte, and let them know you have a coupon.

A latte is about one third espresso and 2/3 steamed milk, with a bit of foam on top. You CAN put whipped cream on top, but it is not needed.
Espresso is made different than coffee, a small amount of water is used, and pressure is used to force it through the grounds. It’s a bit thicker than coffee, and it is usually a shot size. (1 oz)

Go ahead and try the latte. They don’t come with sugar, I always add my own :)
But lattes are always way more expensive than just a regular coffee, so I don’t get them often, only as a treat.

    Latte is mostly milk.
