You must be considered a coffee-lover or you would not be here … but are you a part of that segment of the population always first to grab hold of even the most simple bit of espresso innovation if suggests a better cup of espresso (or one-upping your friends)? Even though you own an excellent espresso maker, you're continually looking out for the most recent piece of coffee-making development. The possibility that your current item of equipment was more expensive than someone else's automobile cannot really obscure the fact that you might be disregarding a major lesson of life – that the greatest coffee machine is only as effective as its weakest link … in this instance the coffee beans.

One Man's Bean is Another Man's Burden

You no doubt know what you enjoy: a dark roast for breakfast time and, for particular situations, Jamaican Blue Mountain to impress your pals following a meal. Technological innovation, specially in regards to espresso machines, has been tweaked to the stage that we believe the particular espresso machine is the make-or-break link in the coffee making sequence. Of course, a great coffee machine has the potential to produce an awesome cup of coffee. An inescapable truth, however, has crept in to the consciousness of the modern espresso connoisseur − the understanding that the weak link within the espresso-making chain is, in reality, the humble coffee bean.

No measure of digitally managed temperature gauges or gold-plated group heads can compensate for inferior or poorly roasted beans. A lot of money and all the research in the world will do absolutely nothing to improve the espresso from the greatest espresso machine money can buy you if the coffee beans fail to deliver on their promise.

Engineering is, at its heart, a guarantee of reliability. Under a similar circumstances, with the same ingredients the best coffee machine will produce a superior product time and again via the application and manipulation of carefully controlled inputs. To put it simply, your coffee machine ought to, under constant conditions, create a very good cup of coffee each and every time.

The purist among you could argue that the water is the most important element in a good cup of coffee. It is true that water quality is crucial for the completed product yet it's not the most important ingredient. That role goes to the coffee bean! Secured within this roasted cherry are flavor complexities that, at their optimum, can be compared to a fine wine.

At their worst, however, poor quality or improperly roasted coffee beans are nothing more than pale copies of their former selves. Old beans impart a bitterness to coffee that might be better dished up as a late-night offering at a roadside gas station. By using beans like that, even the best coffee maker will fail to make a drinkable cup of espresso.

So now, while you're reading the testimonials regarding the high-tech features of that completely new coffee maker that's being recommended as "the best home coffee maker available today", take a few minutes to consider the humble coffee bean. If you really want to savor excellent espresso, you have to begin with top quality beans.

People who don't know the many benefits of coffee beans often want to know why people buy coffee beans in the first place when you can purchase a jar of ordinary coffee. A can of decent coffee is just as good, they say. But is it really?

The fact of the matter is that there are over twenty different types of coffee beans. However, they are primarily divided into two broad types. Regular coffee drinkers might already be familiar with the various types of coffee beans available and their various flavors.

Coffea Arabica is the scientific name of a type of coffee bean that makes up between sixty to seventy percent of the world's consumption. This is also the type that most people like out of the many other types. This type of coffee bean is also very expensive largely because of the strict growing conditions required to grow this type of coffee.

These plants need high altitude to thrive and you should be at least around 3,000 feet above sea level. In addition the temperature should not exceed the low-70s degrees Fahrenheit range.

The less popular type of coffee beans make up around thirty-forty percent of the world's coffee consumption. Scientists call this type of coffee 'Coffea Canephora' and is commonly called Robusta. This type of coffee bean is considered inferior quality as compared to the much loved coffea Arabica and is hardly sold separately. This type of coffee bean can be grown at temperatures of around 85 degrees Fahrenheit and almost anywhere. However this type of coffee bean is a bit bitter and most people don't like the bitter taste associated with this type of bean.

Coffea canephora are often used as fillers for coffea Arabica beans, which because Arabica is expensive, are often mixed with these lesser quality coffee beans. So most of the time when you buy coffee beans it's coffea Arabica mixed with Robusta in order to bring it within the reach of common people.

Whether you prefer Arabica based coffees or go for the Robusta varieties, the freshest and best tasting cup of coffee will always be made from freshly ground coffee beans. You can certainly buy a large can of supermarket coffee that is already ground up, or you may actually buy coffee beans from the same supermarket and grind it right there using their coffee grinder. But within a week or so, your ground-up coffee beans are going start tasting stale.

The best way to get a fresh cup of coffee is to purchase coffee beans in small quantities and grind them up at home as you go. Coffee grinders are available just about anywhere and they are for the most part inexpensive, so it is worth the money to be able to buy coffee beans and grind them yourself.

Coffee is a brewed drink made from roasted seeds or coffee beans of the coffee plant. The plant originated in Africa but is now grown in over 70 countries. The beans are produced by different species of the small, evergreen bush of the genus Coffea.

The three main varieties of the coffee plant are Coffea Arabica, Coffea Robusta and Coffea Liberica. This plant has dark green leaves and fragrant, white flowers. The coffee bean begins as a green berry and ripens to a deep red color after about eight months.

Two of the most commonly grown are the highly regarded Coffea Arabica and the robusta form of the hardier Coffea Canephora that is resistant to the devastating coffee leaf rust. Both are cultivated mainly in Latin America, Southeast Asia and Africa.

Of the two, arabica coffee is often highly regarded than robusta coffee since the later is bitter and has less flavor. Because of this, about three-quarters of coffee cultivated worldwide are arabica. However, robusta is less susceptible to disease than arabica and can be cultivated in lower altitudes and warmer climates - conditions where arabica will not thrive.

Robusta coffee also has about 4,050 percent more caffeine than arabica. This explains why it is used as a cheaper alternative to arabica in many commercial coffee blends. However, good quality robusta beans are used in some espresso blends to provide a full-bodied taste and a better foam head known as crema.

Coffee plants need a tropical environment to survive. They thrive in warm weather and a moist climate with a yearly rainfall of at least 59 inches. Modern coffee beans are named after the place where they are grown. Top coffee producers include Brazil, Colombia, India and Indonesia.

Once ripe, coffee berries are picked, processed and dried. The seeds are roasted to varying degrees, depending on the desired flavor. These are ground and brewed to create coffee. Looking for the finest coffee in the world? For a unique coffee experience, visit http://www.chronoscoffee.com/.

Roasting coffee beans at home using a popcorn popper. DIY Instructions of the entire coffee roasting process, from roaster setup to bean storage. How to roast coffee beans on the cheap from start to finish. Basically, you dump the green coffee beans in until they aren't bouncing around much and stir until they are. Wait until desired roast is reached (we like to roast into the second crack a minute or so, otherwise they don't seem done), then cool as rapidly as possible and age in an airtight container for a few days before grinding and brewing.
We see a lot of organic coffee beans available in the market. Are they worth it? Here is a look at some of the reasons for making the switch to organic coffee beans.

The Future of Agriculture

From all indications, the future of agriculture lies with organic farming. For the consumer, this means healthier produce. Organic farmers make use of sustainable farming processes and avoid the use of dangerous chemical pesticides and fertilizers. These harmful substances are known carcinogens.

In order for produce to be certified as organic in the U.S., it must pass strict requirements by an agency of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. For organic coffee beans, these requirements include proof of being grown in an area that is proven to have no exposure to prohibited pesticides and chemicals for at least 3 years. Additional requirements for certification include a sustainable crop rotation plan which avoids soil depletion and pest control through non-chemical methods.

Try a New Organic Lifestyle

It's becoming easier these days to adopt an organic lifestyle, since organic products are now more common in the market. Your diet can now include all kinds of organic foods, from milk to meat to fruits and vegetables. There is no question that lowering your exposure to deadly chemicals and pesticides is vitally important to your health. It's only natural to make organic coffee beans part of your organic lifestyle.

Respect the Earth

Many farmers who grow organic coffee beans also make a commitment to protect the earth in other ways besides avoiding pesticides and chemicals. Many plant their coffee under trees in the rainforest, rather than clearing the trees. This helps preserve the diverse bird population that calls the rainforest home.

Are Organic Coffee Beans more Expensive?

If all the arguments for avoiding pesticides and helping to preserve the fragile rainforest haven't convinced you to buy organic coffee beans, you should give them a try because they taste great. You may think organic coffee beans are significantly more expensive, but this is not the case. You can find organic coffee with prices comparable to non-organic online and at many stores. You will feel good knowing that you are getting less exposure to harmful substances and helping to protect the planet at the same time.

Last but not the least, check if you are buying organic coffee beans from reputable third party. You want to be sure you're getting the real thing.
