This discussion needs to start with clarification. There are really two types of café latte. Most Americans will be familiar with the espresso drink that features a lightly foamed portion of milk. There is another form, principally French, that is quite simply coffee with milk. A strong cup of drip coffee is served with warmed milk and the drinker chooses their own proportions. This, of course, is very similar to the cup of Joe that is so popular in the US. Most people, however, when they ask for a latte, are expecting a shot of espresso to be involved.
First and foremost, don't be put off by people who tell you there's only one way to make a latte. Some latte drinkers prefer a relatively milk-heavy blend, with about 2 parts milk to one part latte. Others prefer double or triple shots in their lattes, making the drink more of a cup of espresso with some token milk, for all practical purposes. The principal differentiation between this drink and cappuccino, to which it is very much related, is the nature of the milk and, most importantly, the amount of foam on the head of the beverage.
Most often, a café latte has minimal foam. Some drinkers prefer more and some will request that there is no foam at all. All of these drinkers are enjoying a latte, however. Oftentimes, this drink is flavored with a shot of vanilla, which adds a delightful sweetness to the brew. No matter how you want your latte, remember that it is, indeed, your latte and you can mix it however you like. If you're making your own at home, there are a few basic things that will make it turn out good every single time you make it.
An espresso shot is traditionally 1 oz in size. Many latte drinkers will prefer the double or triple shot simply because it makes the drink taste less "milky". The milk can be steamed, if you have a machine for it, or it can be heated up and frothed with a whisk or a milk-frother. You don't need a lot of foam to make a latte, however, and what foam you have should not be stiff, as it would in a cappuccino. Your espresso shot should be added first, the milk second and what foam you have spooned onto the top last.

You must be considered a coffee-lover or you would not be here … but are you a part of that segment of the population always first to grab hold of even the most simple bit of espresso innovation if suggests a better cup of espresso (or one-upping your friends)? Even though you own an excellent espresso maker, you're continually looking out for the most recent piece of coffee-making development. The possibility that your current item of equipment was more expensive than someone else's automobile cannot really obscure the fact that you might be disregarding a major lesson of life – that the greatest coffee machine is only as effective as its weakest link … in this instance the coffee beans.
One Man's Bean is Another Man's Burden
You no doubt know what you enjoy: a dark roast for breakfast time and, for particular situations, Jamaican Blue Mountain to impress your pals following a meal. Technological innovation, specially in regards to espresso machines, has been tweaked to the stage that we believe the particular espresso machine is the make-or-break link in the coffee making sequence. Of course, a great coffee machine has the potential to produce an awesome cup of coffee. An inescapable truth, however, has crept in to the consciousness of the modern espresso connoisseur − the understanding that the weak link within the espresso-making chain is, in reality, the humble coffee bean.
No measure of digitally managed temperature gauges or gold-plated group heads can compensate for inferior or poorly roasted beans. A lot of money and all the research in the world will do absolutely nothing to improve the espresso from the greatest espresso machine money can buy you if the coffee beans fail to deliver on their promise.
Engineering is, at its heart, a guarantee of reliability. Under a similar circumstances, with the same ingredients the best coffee machine will produce a superior product time and again via the application and manipulation of carefully controlled inputs. To put it simply, your coffee machine ought to, under constant conditions, create a very good cup of coffee each and every time.
The purist among you could argue that the water is the most important element in a good cup of coffee. It is true that water quality is crucial for the completed product yet it's not the most important ingredient. That role goes to the coffee bean! Secured within this roasted cherry are flavor complexities that, at their optimum, can be compared to a fine wine.
At their worst, however, poor quality or improperly roasted coffee beans are nothing more than pale copies of their former selves. Old beans impart a bitterness to coffee that might be better dished up as a late-night offering at a roadside gas station. By using beans like that, even the best coffee maker will fail to make a drinkable cup of espresso.
So now, while you're reading the testimonials regarding the high-tech features of that completely new coffee maker that's being recommended as "the best home coffee maker available today", take a few minutes to consider the humble coffee bean. If you really want to savor excellent espresso, you have to begin with top quality beans.

What are some good easy coffee recipes?
I just started liking the taste of coffee a little while ago and I think it really wakes me up in the morning. I don't like the full blown coffee (i.e. just coffee with milk or whatever) and usually mix it with hot chocolate. What are some easy coffee recipes that I make in the morning that doesn't take too long? I only have a coffee maker and not an expresso machine.

A Free Coffee Maker Is Good

When you think of what the idea of the perfect coffee maker do you think of one that cost hundreds of dollars? What do you think of when you think of that perfect cup of coffee? To me the concept of a free coffee maker sounds best because its - well, free. Stop and ask yourself what a $500 coffee pot can do for you that a cheaper free coffee pot can't do? Hopefully you answered; nothing.
I've seen hundreds of coffee pots and coffee maker deals that I simply cannot understand. The idea of a coffee pot costing hundreds of dollars to me just seems absurd. Don't get me wrong I understand that art of a classic espresso machine with all the bells and whistles. I also understand the concept of a French press coffee maker as it allows the coffee to become silky smooth. What I could never figure out is why someone would buy a coffee maker that costs hundreds of dollars outside the specialty pots. I mean what can an expensive regular coffee maker do that a regular free coffee maker couldn't?
The concept has been around for years, mark up sells. You might be asking, what do I mean? Its a noted value and thats merely it. It is believed that a free coffee maker must be useless and cheap. The belief also holds true that an expensive coffee maker makes better coffee. Again barring specialty coffee makers, a coffee maker is simply a coffee maker. Whether free nor paid they both would achieve the same results. You pour the coffee into the coffee pot add water and brew the coffee withing 10 minutes as there is no difference.
We are taught at a young age about perceived value. Perhaps we've seen all the scams out there and are simply afraid that something labeled as free really isn't free. You may even feel that a free coffee maker is going to somehow be sub-par from the expensive ones. Could it be the design of a coffee maker that could be the draw?
Look at Gevalia a company that has been around for years giving away a free coffee maker. Gevalia offers stainless steel coffee makers that match the look of the fancier expensive coffee pots. Or even look more recently to companies like cafe Belmondo that bring value and a good coffee pot to the table free and have thousands of customers a year signing up to get theirs. No matter how you look at it a free coffee maker is just as useful as a expensive coffee maker. Besides in todays market everyone offers a refund if you don't like something you purchased - even if its free.
The internet has opened doors for everyone and many times forget certain deals at one time did not exist. The ability to get face to face with suppliers of high quality free products is now there. To get a free coffee maker, it used to be time spent flipping through a catalog, selecting multiple kinds of coffee or even spending much more than it was worth in the beginning.
